Historically, family-owned and operated vineyards have been of great importance in the world of Spanish wine. But since the mid-nineteenth century, there was an emergence of larger producers who were less focused on what the land brought to the wine. In response to this trend, a group of small wine producers using only their own estate grown grapes met in 2000 to claim the personality and the individuality that defines the great wines of the region to found "Grandes Pagos de Castilla". This association was enlarged in 2003 in order to include the rest of Spain leading wine regions and renamed Grandes Pagos de España. It now includes 21 wineries from 17 different provinces. The tasting will be presented by Carlos Falcó, Marques de Griñón, Chairman of the Association, and Víctor de la Serna, a leading Spanish wine & food critic and also member of GPE.
